The EGSB reactor is a new high-rate anaerobic reactor with some out-standingcharacteristics features. It is applied to treat organic wastewater in different conditions. Inthe experiment, we studied the start-up of the reactor with anaerobic sludge in normaltemperature and we researched on the operation characteristics of wastewater in normaltemperature.The results are shown below.1. The EGSB reactor could be started up with anaerobic sludge after 100 days innormal temperature. The concentration of influent COD should be more than 800mg/L tostart-up the reactor. The characteristics of the sludge were varied at the end of theexperiment.2. Some operating rules in the EGSB reactor were varied with temperature.3. The reactor started up in normal temperature had strong ability to resist thechange of the temperature.4. The ability of resisting the change of the organic loading rate of the reactor inthe stabilization stage was stronger than that in the start-up stage.5. It was very quick and only took 15 days at the normal temperature for thesecondary start-up of the EGSB reactor after it was deposited at the low temperature of5~11℃for a long period of time. Organic load was high to 27.82kgCOD/(m~3·d), CODremoval efficiency was 81%. High start-up load and fleetly increasing load should beapplied for the secondary startup of the EGSB reactor.
