A new methodof the end-point control of basic oxygen fumace (BOF) is proposed,which is based on the combination of the flame image information with the light intensityin the converter mouth. The experimental system is comprised of flame image capturingsub-system, light intensity Sampling sub-system and data analysing and processingsub-system. The flame image capturing system consists of a telescope and a digital camera.The photodetector and the optical fiber constitute the light intensity sampling system. Thedata of image and light intensity is transmitted to the computer through RS-232 serial foranalysing and processing. MSComm control is used to open and initialize the serial port,which is based on MFC libraries in VC++ 6.0, indirectly transferring Windows API. Somenew functions are also added in order to make sure that the data transmission ishomonymic and in time, which are also the basis for the data processing. Windows API isused to investigate the algorithm of multiple-threads under the environment of VC++ so asto process the data of image and light intensity concurrently. A program is written forreading and writing the data harmoniously.
