4-(N'-methyl-l-piperazinyl)-N-hydroxyethyl-naphthalimide allyl chloride quatemary salt was synthesized from 4-bromo-1,8-baphthalic anhydride. The structure of the product was characterized by IR, 1H NMR and MS. The optimum reaction conditions were obtained by experiments. Fluorescence properties of the monomer were studied by fluorescence spectrum and UV spectrum. The monomer has stronger fluorescence properties. The fluorescent quantum efficiency is 0.72. The excited and the emitted wavelength of the bmonomer is 451nm and 533nm, respectively. The lowest determined limit is 7.1x10-3mg·L-1. The change tendency of fluorescence intensity of the monomer was studied under defferent concentration, pH and temperature. The relationship of linearity betwin the fluorescence intensity and concentration is well. The fluorescence intensity became a little lower while the pH was higher, and also became a little lower while the temperature is higher, but the effect of the fluorescence intensity is little. So, the monomer could be using well in the system of industrial circulation cooling water treatment.
