Copper is a kind of non-ferrous metal which has large used quantity. Continuous casting technique is very important in the production of metallic material. The level of continuous casting technique has been the standard of modernization degree of iron and steel industry. Crystallizer, which is the heart of continuous casting machine, is made of copper alloy because copper conduction of heat alloy is very good. But its service of life is not long enough because abrasion resistance of copper is too low. For can prolong the service life of crystallizer, abrasion resistance coating being clad on the surface of copper by means of CO2 laser can improve the abrasion resistance of crystallizer. The researches mainly included:1 The physical model and numerical model of laser heat temperature field was established. The temperature field distribution of copper surface has been obtained by ANSYS numerical analysis method. The result shows that the surface of copper is not melt.2 Before laser cladding, Ni alloy powder has been clad on the surface by means of plasma spraying. Several kinds of laser cladding craft have been used to the surface of capper.3 The test result manifestation that abrasion resistance of copper surface raise very greatly after laser cladding. The surface of capper and the cladding coating adhere to each other, but they haven't attained metallurgy combine. The copper surface by laser cladding can improve abrasion resistance and prolong the life span of crystallizer. It can produce a good economic performance in terms of raise production efficiency, economize material, decline cost and increase yield.
