This paper studies enhanced-waterproofing performance of the polyhydroxylated surfaces which primarily include fiberboard, paper and so on. In essence, enhancing some performance of these surfaces is that the surface-performance of materials is modified and improved, which changes the physical and chemical properties. According to improving relevant features, the application characteristics of these materials are improved, and the qualities are materials are enhanced, in order to expand the scope to meet the requirement of today's new materials and new technologies.Surface modification technology has been developed during the study on surface protection and surface strengthening. Surface modification technology includes changing on physical property and chemical property of material, the aim is to improve characteristic of material. It has become important and popular not only in the surface chemistry, but also in interphase engineering. American Colloid chemists Iler has described five types of surface modification methods and modified samples in some areas of application. China has also made a lot of progress in this area, had adopted a series of inorganic compounds to modify by adsorbing many metal ions and organics. There are many ways of surface modification, on the whole, which are divided into chemical and physical methods.Now, using the surface treatment agent with which the surface can has chemical reaction or chemical adsorption is the one of the most widely methods. For a long time, surface modification is achieved by using wax-coating, the Baptist oil, coated paint, and so on. However, these measures have mainly based on the physical connectivity in the surface treatment agent in connection with the material surface. Waterproofing performance was temporary, and durability and effectiveness wasn't ideal, ect. The innovation in this study is that hydroxyl groups in the hydrophilic surface of materials and other active groups have chemical reactions to form solid-chemical combination, which effectively reduce the surface adsorption capability and enhance waterproofing performance. The paper consists of two sections:I. Synthesis of reactive waterproofing agent and evaluation on the properties of MDFIn order to decrease hygroscopy of MDF and improve waterproofing and moitureproofing performance of fiberboard, the reactive waterproofing agent was prepared, which mainly contained with organic-silicon. The paper discussed the influence of different concentration reactive waterproofing agent on the waterproofing and mechanical properties of fiberboard. When appropriately increasing the concentration of the agent, a decrease in the thickness swelling rate as well as the water absorption rate and an increase in dimensional stability of the fiberboard, and consequently the improvement in the overall strength and quality would be observed.II. The Synthesis and Evaluation of the composite modifier reactive polyether in Chemical Modification of Xuan PaperIn order to make paper the good calligraphy and painting function, the composite modifier reactive polyether is developed. After modifier processing,xuan paper achieved the request of drawing and writing, which had a softer and better run-ink properties and a lower price, and would have more use value and market value.
