Single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNTs) synthesized by catalytic vapor decomposition were modified by a kind of phthalocyanine after treated by different methods. The obtained samples were characterized in detail by FI-IR, Raman spectrum and SEM. The results show that SWNTs have been sidewall-functionalized with phthalocyanine physisorption.Purification of crude single-wall carbon nanotubes prepared with electric arc discharge method have been studied, such as oxidation in HNO3, and H2O2, and calcined in air at appropriate temperature. Furthermore, these purified nanotubes were characterized by means of FT-IR, TGA, XRD, and Raman spectrum. The result indicated that the purification methods presented carbonaceous carbon impurities in raw SWNTs, such as catalytic metal particles, amorphous carbon and graphite fragments have been selectively eliminated by this way.SWNTs containing carboxylicacid groups was reacted with octadecylamine(ODA) to make it form acyl-amine. The analysis of TGA and FT-IR spectrum indicated that carboxylic SWNTs were covalently functionalized with ODA. Tetrahydrofuran is used as disseminating agent, SWNTs was separated using the method of higth-speed centrifugating, Characterizations of SWNTs after separated were performed by UV-vis-NIR and Raman spectroscopy. The results show that the metallic SWNTs was riched in precipitate, the semiconducting types SWNTs was riched in supernatant solution.
