The recent progress of region selectivity research for aromatic nitration was one of hottest topic. The effects of surfactants on the region selectivity and the conversion of nitration reaction for toluene as substrates were investigated in this paper. The effects of surfactants on the ratio of m-nitrotoluene were explored by studying the nitration of toluene using nitro-sulfuric acid. Toluene nitration which as first step for TNT production can receive 60% o-nitrotoluene, 36% p-nitrotoluene, and 4% m-nitrotoluene. The nitration of o-nitrotoluene and p-nitrotoluene can gain TNT, but The nitration of m-nitrotoluene cannot gain TNT. Which exist inevitability affect TNT and increase content of nitro-compound in waste water. In order to advance the quality of TNT, and change the by-product to preciousness, decrease environmental pollution. We must effective control region selectivity for toluene nitration. Which can bring enormity benefit. In this paper. Studying the nitration of toluene mostly under the system of nitration which contain nitro-sulfuric acid. For produce of industrialization, The method was especially which has some practicability. the influences of experimental conditions such as the surfactant, strength of the nitro-sulfuric and reaction temperature were also investigated. It showed that the m-nitrobenzene increased 1.1% when sodium lauryl sulfate was added, and the o-nitrobenzene decreased at the same time, which made the m-nitrobenzene up to 5.3%; the m-nitrobenzene decreased 1.2% while the p-nitrobenzene increased 5.6% if the dodecyl phenyl sulfuric was added, Which made the m-nitrobenzene was controlled at 3.0%, and this made the quality of TNT was less effected by m-nitrobenzene's existence effectively. All these achieved the ratio of the nitrobenzene was under controlled..
