After introducing the current situations of water resources.and water pollutionat home and abroad this paper puts forward the conception of intermediate water and then illustrates the development of the return-use, techniques of intermediate water at home and abroad. This paper thinks it necessary and feasible to develop the return-use project of intermediate water in a residential area, elaborates the classification of waste water, water quality and collection of waste water in residential areas, According to the conditions of our country. and on the basis of research achievements, internal and external, sets three typical techniques suitable to treat intermediate water in residential areas: the traditional activated sludge treatment technique, the biochemical tertiary treatment technique, and the membrane-organism contact process technique. The paper obtains the correlation date of return-use treatment techniques for intermediate water through the lab model experiments of these three treatment techniques. Then after comprehensive, detailed analysis, research and comparison to these techniques in inflow/outlet quality, technique features, investment and operation cost, this paper, at last, looks the membrane-organism contact process technique .The most prospective one in application. The last part gets a complete set of design, calculation results and chart papers, after detailed discussion on the work principles, disadvantages of the membrane-organism contact process technique, and detailed design and calculation of the whole technique process.
