The hydrogenation liquefaction experiments of low conversion distillation residue from Shenhua coal liquefaction have been carried out to investigate the reaction dynamics of residue liquefaction, and discuss its liquefaction reaction mechanism.First of all, low conversion distillation residue has been pretreated such as breaking and grinding, and then proximate analysis, ultimate analysis and residue components analysis of residue sample have been carried out.The hydrogenation liquefaction experiment of the sample was carried out under such conditions as different reaction temperature, reaction time and the initial pressure of hydrogen. Soxlet's extraction was used to appraise the liquefaction effect, which characterized the liquefaction effect of low conversion distillation residue by the yield of oil, asphaltenes, preasphaltenes, gas and water from residue liquefaction. The influence of different reaction conditions on liquefaction effect were discussed in detail.At the research stage of reaction dynamics for distillation low conversion distillation residue liquefaction, the dynamics model were assumed according to the experience and the law from experimental data, the curve and function relation of the yield changing with time were educed. Then the dynamics equation of liquefaction reaction can be fixed on the basis of assumed dynamics model, the dynamics reaction rate constant was confirmed by linear regression and dynamics equation. By dynamics reaction rate constant, the dynamics model of this research has been discussed to test its fitness; thereout the apparent activation energy of liquefaction reaction was obtained. During the analysis to dynamics model and reaction rate constant, cracking hydrogenation reactions of preasphaltenes has been considered as a control step of residue liquefaction reaction. At last, the influences of reaction temperature and the initial pressure of hydrogen on the reaction rate were analyzed, as well as the relation between reaction temperature and activation energy, and the reaction mechanism of distillation residue liquefaction was analyzed compared with the coal liquefaction mechanism.
