Energy sources, environmental protection and security are three big problems which automobile industry is faced nowadays. Therefore, all big auto manufacturers focus on the self-weight lighten of automobile to reduce energy consumption and environmental pollution, enhance automobile's fuel economy, save the limited resources, and improve the traveling stability of auto, and the comfortableness and security of passenger. Among all aluminum alloys for automotive body sheets, Al-Mg-Si based aluminum alloys have been used widely because of its good combinational properties of high strength,excellent formability,good corrosion resistance. In this paper, based on 6022 alloy, in order to optimize the better alloy compositions, the influences of alloy element on its microstructure, mechanical properties and formability are investigated by changed the content of alloy element. As-cast and uniform heat treated microstructure of optimization alloy is studied using optical microscope (OM) and scanning electronic microscope (SEM), and intermetallic compounds formed during solidification and uniform heat treatment were analyzed using energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). The influences of solution treatment, natural aging and pre-aging system to structure and properties of alloy are investigated to provide experimental basis on obtaining the outstanding performance of automotive body sheets.
