Poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxzole)(PBO), is a kind of heterocycle polymer with high strength, high modulus,hight hermal resistance and good environment stability, which contains two aromatic and heterocyclic moieties.The synthesis of monomer, polymerization of PBO, the polymerization of poly(benzobisoxazole)s, and the properties of PBO and poly(benzobisoxazole)s were studied in this paper.The synthesis of important monomer for PBO, 4,6-diamino-1,3-benzenediol dihydrochloride (DABDO) was given as follows.The conditions of synthesis for each intermonomer and technologies of improving purity were investigated. The purity of each intermonomer was analyzed by the means of GC,HPLC, IR, NMR and Elemental analysis.The PBO polymer was obtained by the polymerization of terephthalic acid(TA) and DABDO in poly(phosphoric) acid (PPA).The influence of the content of P2O5,the concentration of DABDO in PPA solution , the time and temperature as well as the size of TA monomer on polymerization were studied. The polymer resulted was characterized by FT-IR, Fluorescence spectra,TGA and intrinsic viscosity .Poly(benzobisoxazole)s were obtained by the polymerization of DABDO and propanedioic acid,adipic acid, dodecandioic acid, tridecanedioicacid, 2.6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid,1.3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid,ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid in poly(phosphoric) acid (PPA). These polymers were characterized by FT-IR, TGA, Fluorescence spectra,and intrinsic viscosity.
