At present, the automotive industry is in need of reducing body weight and energy consumption. Automobile manufacturers in many countries are committed to automobile plasticirizatin, in order to reduce vehicle weight. Polypropylene (PP) is one of five general plastics, It has rich source and low price. Compared with other common plastics, general performance of polypropylene is better: non-toxic, low density, excellent processing properties.Bending strength , tensile strength and elastic modulus, stress cracking resistance and chemical resistance are more excellent. Preparing modified polypropylene resin bumper in application of nano-technique is in the field of new materials technology.In this paper,the sol - gel method is used to prepare nano CaCO3/SiO2 composite particles.And, through IR, XPS and TEM, the morphology and composition of the composite particles were analyzed. After filling CaCO3/SiO2 composite nano-particle into suitable polypropylene,its flexural strength(σw),bending modulus(Ew),tensible strength(σf), tensible modulus(Ef), impact strength(I),as well as hardness(HD)were tested. The results showed that the adding of CaCO3/SiO2 nano-composite particles makes the Shore hardness polypropylene material increased significantly. When the content of CaCO3/SiO2 nano-composite particles is around 5%, the tensile strength and flexural strength of the PP composite material increase, while the impact strength of the material has not been effected significantly.This paper also give a grafting-modify test of polypropylene. The results showed that the tensile strength, bending strength and elastic modulus of maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene composite material are higher than which not grafted composite material.
