The main characteristics of heavy forging manipulator is its powerful gripping weight and torque, the labor intensity can be reduced and the manufacturability of the forging equipments can be deeply developed by using it in forging workshops, therefore the reasarch and development of the heavy forging manipulator has important significance for the forging industry. The clamping mechanism is an important part of the forging equipments ,the stability and safety of the clamping is vital for the forging equipments. but it need high cost and great venues and long time to study the clamping principle by designing the real forging equipments,thus it is an economy design and experimental method to study clamping mechanism by using clamping model which is a similar model of the forging equipments and designed based on the similarity theory.In this paper,the similar optimization design method of the heavy forging manipulator is probed,the similarity of the original model and constituted model of the heavy forging manipulator is analysed and the feasibility of the modeling experiment of the heavy forging manipulator is verified,the parameters of the original model can be reasonably promoted to the normal model by using similar optimization design method. the main reasarch contents and results of the paper are as follow:(1) The principle and basic ideology of the similar optimization design is discussed ,the conditions of using similar optimization design is analysed,the method for modeling the mathematical model of the similar optimization design is probed.(2) By using similarity theory,the similar criterions of the clamping system are set up , the simialr units of the clamping system are set up by using simialr system analysing method,the elements and its characteristic are analysed.(3) In order to design the clamping mechanism with excellent clamping feature,the parameter optimization for original model is carried out by using multi-objective optimization genetic algorithm,and the parameters of the normal model are getted by using similar optimization design method. (4) Based on the simulation and the realationship of parameters of the clamping system ,the similarity of the experimental device is analysed,combine experiment ,the feasibility of the modeling experiment of the experimental device is analysed.
