With the increasing consciousness of protecting environment and legislation,the pollution of mineral oil-based lubricant have become the international hotspot nowdays.People are looking for new lubricants which will be environment friendly and energy saving.Water-based lubricant meets all the requests and both have some other strongpoints, such as cleanness,cheap,facile,nonflammable,and so on.Therefore,the water-based lubricants are used widely in cutting,griding,drawing, rolling,as well as hydraulic pressure and transmission.But the existing water-based lubricant has many shortages,such as the lubricity is not as good as mineral oil-based lubricant,it cann't be stable in water for a required time and it will bring new rust on metal surface.So the application of water-based lubricant is restricted.To widing the application range,the key is developing new water-based lubricative additives.To change the actuality,this paper will do some work on this. The work may play an important role in the further reseach of water-based lubricative additives.In this paper,six novel ashless and non-phosphorus N-containing heterocyclic derivatives,2,4,6-tri-[N,N-bishydroxyethylamino]-s-triazine (NOT),2,4,6-trihydroxyethylsulfanyl-s-triazine(SNOT), 2,4,6-tri-[N-hydroxyethyl-amino-methylenesulfanyl]-s-triazine(SNOT-1) and 2,4,6-tri-[N,N-bishydroxyethyl-amino-methylenesulfanyl]-s-triazine (SNOT-2),sodium 2-mercaptobenzothiazole dithiomethanoimate (SMD-Na) and sodium benzotriazole dithiomethanoimate(SBD-Na), were synthesized and their structures were analyzed through infrared spectroscopy and elemental analysis.Secondly,their synthesis cutting performances in water were tested based on the Chinese standard test method GB6144-85.The tests contain appearance,storage stability,clarity,pH value,antifoaming performance, surface tension and corrisivity.The results show that 5 synthsis compounds fulfil the national standard.Thirdly,the load-carrying and antiwear properties of these six N-containing heterocyclic derivatives were evaluated on a four-ball test machine.The test results infer that all of them have excellent tribological properties in water.The P_B value can be improved distinctly by introducing sulfer.It shows that the best to the worst is SNOT>SNOT-2>SMD-Na>SBD-Na>NOT.And the antiwear property is SNOT-2>SNOT-1>SNOT>SBD-Na>SMD-Na>NOT.The SNOT-2 has the best friction-reducing property for it's the lowest friction coefficient.Lastly,the chemical features of the worn steel surface were observed and examined by means of inverted metallurgical microscopy(IMM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy(EDS).The analytical results of typical elements on the worn steel surface demonstrated,during the lubricating process,that the additives reacted with counter-face metal and generated a boundary lubricating and protecting film containing elements of S,N and others,which contributes to improve the tribological properties of the test fluid.
