The "1+4" Hot Tandem Rolling Line adopted proven, advanced aluminums strip hot rolling technique in the world of today. It is an only new-built hot tandem rolling line among the world aluminums fabrication fields in recent 10 years. The construction of this line has filled a vacancy that there's no hot tandem rolling technology in China's aluminums fabrication industry. It provides tremendous motivation to the progress of China's aluminums fabrication facilities and technology. But when the work piece is rolled on the finishing mill strip steering occurs. This is undesirable because it causes inferior product quality, reducing production and may also lead to downtime if the strip moves past the edge of the rolls. So, it's significantly to lucubrate steering problem.This paper mainly does some researches about modeling and controlling of strip steering. Firstly, proposed taking the difference of outgoing wedge ratio and ingoing wedge ratio as the criterion for strip steering theoretically. And an experiment was carried through under different inducements. The results of the experiment show that the difference of outgoing wedge ratio and ingoing wedge ratio can estimate the work piece is steering or not effectively.Strip steering model is established with the relation between difference of outgoing wedge ratio and ingoing wedge ratio and the strip thickness model under unsymmetrical rolling. It is proved by simulations under the single inducement and synthetized inducements.Lastly, in order to do research on steering control, two steering control models are launched based on the steering model with the methods of Rolling Parallel Stiffness and Sliding Mode control respectively. The steering controller designed by sliding mode control method is using equivalent control and switch control law. Ambrosino switch function method is adopted in order to eliminate or reduce the shaking of the controller. The simulation has done respectively. From the simulations, then come the conclusions:compared with the Rolling Parallel Stiffness method, Sliding Mode control method has a good performance on steering controlling and the controller has a soon stabilization output.
