High step-up ratio pulse transformer is a key component in our solid-state modulator, but a conventional pulse transformer with high transformation ratio is not suitable due to its relative slow rise edge for the magnetron and klystron application, therefore a fractional-turn ratio pulse transformer was developed in our laboratory for the solid state modulator. It can output the pulse with fast rise edge, like the induction adder, and it is compact like the conventional high ratio pulse transformer. As the application of fractional-turn ratio pulse transformer in solid-state modulator will reduce the complexity and increase the reliability of the solid state modulator system, it is of significant importance to develop the fractional-turn ratio pulse transformer. In this paper, the work as following has been done.1. The principle and structure of the fractional-turn ratio pulse transformer were introduced in detail. The concept of fractional turn and fractional ratio were explained. The rise time and droop of the transformer have been studied from theoretical analysis as well as computer simulation.2. The design and implement of a 1/6.2:7 fractional-turn ratio pulse transformer were introduced.3. The equivalent leakage inductance is 157.4μH and the equivalent stray capacitance is 412.3pf, all measured by the impedance analyzer. The measured equivalent distribution parameters were compared to the model calculation results and the agreement was good. High voltage test of the pulse transformer connected a 470Ωfictitious load has performed in oil. When the 880V rectangular voltage pulses were input to the primary windings, an output pulse with a peak voltage of 38kV and a rise time of 783.8ns was successfully generated.4. The voltage linear addition characteristic of the fractional-turn ratio pulse transformer was researched with low voltage experiments.
