Two of the most important factors, which impact on the performance of high-performance computer system, are the system bus and the structure of the computer system. With the apace developing of the computer science and technology, the quality of the airborne computer system has been highly improved by the using of the high-speed processor, the memory chips with large capacity, high-speed avionic network standards and other advanced technologies. Because of the low bandwidth, the low reliability and the limited performance of the traditional PCI bus, which has been used for dozens of years, cannot reach the requirements of the multiple high-performance avionics system in the future, the important innovation of system bus and structure has take place and ongoing. Nowadays, the better performance, shorter response time as well as more effective and reliable computer system have been created, basing on the appearance of a series of new high speed serial bus, such as PCI Express, RapidIO, HyperTransport and InfiniBand.Taking the status above into consideration, there are several chapters:1. Firstly this paper introduces the development course of avionics system, and analyzes the performance needs of the future airborne computer。Secondly, we introducing the present situation and developing trend of several new high speed serial bus, such as the PCI Express, RapidIO, HyperTransport, InfiniBand, etc., furthermore, the criterion of PCI Express is highly introduced. It can be seen that the PCI Express is a kind of I/O technique for the traffic of modules and systems. The 'peer to peer'technique and switch mechanisms replace the traditional shared bus in PCI Express criterion. Because of the advantage of high-bandwidth,low-latency and scalable I/O interconnect, PCI Express transcend the traditional time-sharing bus.2. Basing on thorough analyze of the PCI Express criterion, a kind of new computer structure is create, the modules communicate with each other by PCI Express in the system. This kind of have more advantages than traditional computer such as size, function, performance and extension capability.3. There are two design projects of PCI Express interface based on PEX8311 and FPGA IP core. This paper analyzed the pocket switch mechanisms, the protocol of address routing, ID routing and implicit routing. Finally we designed and develop a switch module of the airborne computer system successfully.Base on the application research project "Interface technology in embedded airborne computer", the design and realization of PCI Express interface circuit and switch module paved the way for PCI Express widely applicable in airborne computer.
