Whether the geometric design of road is appropriate, that is the mainly influence factor of highway traffic safety. As the development of highway design theory, more and more disadvantages about the classical geometric design method based on design speed are exposed, at the mean time, geometric design method based on operation speed is widely accepted in the world. Operation speed is the most direct influence of road geometry on the driving cars, therefore, it is quite reliable that design the road geometry based on the operation speed. There are 2 features:firstly, according to the operation speed, design index can be defined. So that the geometric design factor can meet the requirement of actual driving, the problems holded by using single design speed.are solved, as well as the consistency of design factors; Secondly, control the difference of design operatiion speed between the adjacent road segment into a tolerance range, to guarantee the continuity and consistency of operation speed in a design road segment.Some domestic and foreign model of operation speed is profoundly reserched, considered the dynamic roles on the car's operating, profound discussion is carried out in the follow aspects: acceleration, deceleration and road geometry. The model is established by using the advanced full scale interactive driving simulator, which is belong to the Road Trafic Simulation Laboratory, Faculty of Transportation Engineering, KunMing university of science and technology. Experiment program of operation speed focused on the single road geometric factors is proposed, and consulted the highway geometric index,3D test road and background is established too, by this way, the influence of road geometry on the car's driving status can be more accurately checked out.Based on the process of extraction, conversion and statistic on the real time recording experimental date of driving simulation system, predicting operation speed model, as well as its corresponding model of acceleration and deceleration when the car is driving on plane curve way and rampway, are found by regression analysis and trend analysis. The user guide of the former models are also supplied. Finally, A sample freeway section was selected from a real road in yunnan mountainous area is made as an example, path line of predicting operation speed model is calculated, which is compared with the path line of experimental speed and other models, concluded that the predicting model is rational and scientific.
