With the requirements of the UAVs related technologies constantly improving in military and civil economy, the research and design of the flight control system is continuously developed further. Therefore in this paper we put forward a unmanned helicopter flight control system development scheme that use a FPGA to assistant the main controller for the design and development.In this paper, we make a deep study of the unmanned helicopter flight control system, and analyze the current research status of flight control system,especially about the assistant controller's. According to the subject needs,we make a design of system function of the flight control system and overall structure of unmanned helicopter, and we will use ARM as the main controller with a FPGA as its assistance. The paper is focused on the overall function of the assistant controller, and also gives the structure design and FPGA selection according to the function of the modules.First of all, the core hardware circuit of the assitant controller is designed and we give a research on the requirement of steering gear controller. We design its hardware circuit of the peripheral hardware circuit for the steering gear control function. The peripheral hardware circuit includes independent power management block, the input and output signal isolation block, switching unit block and the debugging serial interface. And we also design the hardware circuit of the data collection unit.Secondly, to realize the function of steering gear control software with VHDL is studied. According to the characteristics of development using FPGA and the servo control principle, we realize the function of each part of the steering gear controller by modularity, such as PWM signal generation module, remote signal measurement module, storage module, serial communication module. It can be combined into multiple steering gear controllers according to the actual need. Finally give a test of the design, and the most important section is the realization of the function of each part using VHDL.Finally, the dissertation gives a reseach on the assistant controller about its data acquisition function, realizes to using FPGA to help expand sensor interface circuit, and using FPGA to design a writing and reading controller of data collection with SPI and UART.
