Describing the deep foundation pit engineering抯 present condition, this paper illustrates the present condition and the future development of the deep foundation pit engineering in HeBei province on the basis of field survey.Illustrating the basic theory for simulating the foundation pit excavation with the finite element method used in this paper, this paper develops a three-dimensional elastic-plastic finite element program using the Drucker-Prager hardening elasticplastic stress-strain relationship model, the Drucker-Prager ideal model and the Cambridge model. A model test and an actual engineering for foundation pit excavation are calculated with this program. Through the analysis between the calculating data and the testing data, a few of suggestive conclusions have been drawn about the retaining and protecting structure抯 horizontal displacement and the earth pressure抯 distribution during excavation. At the same time, the program抯 practicality has been tested. This paper also concludes the information construction method that is becoming more and more important. A procedure figure about the method is given, and a few of main problems in this method have been analysed.Besides, on account of problems during the study, a few of suggestions are proposed for the theory of simulating foundation pit excavation with the finite element method.
