The problem of hydrodynamics when a ship is moving in or out of the water box is one of the most important problem in the design of the ship lifter ,When a ship is moving in or out of the water box, a kind of the numerical model of the sub-system of ship-chamber of the ship lifter for Three Gorges Project, based on hydrodynamics, is built in the paper.To solve the hydrodynamics when a ship is moving in or out of the water box, the model of two-dimensional is built in the paper. Because the ship is moving in the water box, the movement of water that we study is changeable, we take coordinate connected ship(that is to let the coordinate and the ship move in horizontal direction)and the shallow water model to calculate the variety boundary, let the movement of the grids adapt the moving of the ship, a non-reflection boundary conditions is imposed on open boundaries. The finite element method is used to solve velocity, elevation, and pressure. We use momentum equation to solve depth-averaged velocity , use continuity equation to solve free surface elevations, and use two-dimensional shallow water equation to solve pressure at the bottom of the ship, so make sure whether the water under the free surface or the water under the pressure surface is controlled by momentum equation and continuity equation directly or indirectly. This paper also studies the interaction between the ship and water, the important variable, such as free surface elevation, is calculated.3-D free surface elevations are presented when a ship is moving in or out of the water box. Form the pictures, we can learn how the water move, so we can provide the theory foundation and reference for the building of sub-system of the ship-chamber of the ship lifter for Three Gorges.
