Photon Scanning Tunneling Microscope (PSTM), which detected evanescent wave through frustrated total internal reflection, is one kind of special optical microscope. It has successfully extended the resolution of conventional optical microscope beyond the diffraction limit, achieved nanometer resolution. PSTM not only can be used to image the surface of sample, but also can be used to determine the local index of refraction. The images obtained by a normal PSTM are affected by both the topography and optical characters of samples.This thesis is about the research work of the principle and techniques related to AF/PSTM.. First, the disadvantage of the normal PSTM, the advantage of the control mode of AFM, and the principles of AF/PSTM were introduced. Second, the control methods of the SNOM and PSTM that had been presented were described. The most important parts of AF/PSTM system, the vibrating mechanism and the curving optical fiber probe, were discussed. The system of scanning frequency, and its appliance were introduced Then the classification of the vibrating mechanism and the character of the curving optical fiber probe were presented. At the end the methods of making them in our system, the various parts of AF/PSTM system were introduced. The images obtained were discussed.
