This paper is an important part of the scientific project ((Large-strain description and numerical imitation analysis for hydrocompaction of loess)~ (authorized numder: 598780401). Based on the analysis of literatures about bess soil mechanics and unsaturated soil mechanics, the moistening deformation of loessal foundation by non-even inundation is emphasized and 2-D pooling infiltration model of the unsaturated soil and moistening stress-strain relationship of bess is suggested. The initial strain method is advised to compute the moistening deformation. On the basis of existing large-strain consolidation finite element analysis program (LSCFEA), by adopting the above-mentioned theory, program to calculate moistening deformation is worked out and the large-strain description for wetted bess is realized. By this program, the phenomenon of pooling in the toe of subgrade, which is commonplace in bess district, is analyzed. The analysis results of the large-strain and the small-strain are compared. The influence of stress path and the moistening path is discussed initially.
