Electronic theodolite is an apparatus that is used to measure the horizontal angle and vertical angle. The electronic theodolite has application in civil field and military field. The purpose of his research is to improve the measurement precision and to compensate the error caused by the lean of the electronic theodolite.This thesis discusses the structure of the system and the principle of operation. This paper emphasizes the design project of the system and the design method of operation of software and hardware. In the electronic theodolite system performs all the required function by master and slave singlechips. The slave microcontroller is designed to be a horizontal compensator. In this system the master writes and reads the other electronic component and the slave by the I't-bus. The master uses software to simulate the I"C-bus. In the text the functions and principles of the two microcontrollers are presented in detail. The electrommunication between the master and slave is discussed particularly also.The whole process includes the design of system and development of software and hardware. The electronic theodolite is satisfied the need of the design. It' s measurement precision is good. It can compensate the horizontal error caused by the lean of base. The software has stability and maintainability.
