This paper has analyzed and synthesized the problems of burning heavy viscosity petroleum about injecting steam boilers in Liaohe oil field. The heat balance experiments on injecting steam boilers burning heavy viscosity petroleum is made first. The main causes of low thermal efficiency and heat lose of flue gas are the poor effect of atomization and burning with old-fashioned oil nozzles, worse ash gathered on .heat exchange surface and high temperature of flue gas. In order to solve the problems, the paper gives the following technology improvements .1. Instead of old inner-mixed vortex nozzles, improved Y-type nozzle is developed. The designing calculation of new nozzle and corresponding air distributed organ are made, and the atomization effect is verified and compared with old one. The improved nozzles make heavy viscosity petroleum atomization better and burning completely.2.Design scheme of gravity heat pipe air pre-heater is proposed which fits the actual situation of injecting steam boilers. Detailed heat calculation and design on heat recovery of flue gas is carrying out. Heat pipe air pre-heater is adopted to recover gas heat to heat up cold air for burning, reducing flue gas temperature and increasing heat efficiency of injecting steam boiler.3.On boiler retrofit, the calculation of fuel burning, the heat calculation of boiler inside structure and convection section, and the design of structure parameter of feed water heat exchanger are made. The flue gas channels' resistance calculation and the boiler strength verifying are also carried out. Replacement of water cooling wall improves heat exchanging and decreases loss of heat radiant. The more heat is recovered from flue gas by changing the convection section structure and the heat efficiency will increased . At the end of the paper, the energy balance test and the comparison between before and after retrofit are made, and the effectiveness of retrofit is obvious.
