With the development of electric power industry, high voltage, long distance and large power transmission lines continually appear, which brings more and more stability problem; at the same time, the control of the power flow becomes more and more complex. Installing the FSC(Fixed series capacitor) and TCSC(Thyristor controlled series capacitor) is an effective way to improve the transient stability and suppress the oscillation of power system. This thesis mainly introduces the electromechanical transient model and algorithm of FSC and TCSC.Firstly, the thesis introduces the application and research of FSC and TCSC at home and abroad. Secondly, the thesis introduces the basic structure and theory of FSC and TCSC, which mainly include the characteristic of MOV(Metal oxide varistor) and the reactance characteristic, operating mode, control method of TCSC. Then the thesis introduces the linear model of MOV and the electromechanical transient models of TCSC, which include linear model combining improving transient stabilization section and suppressing low frequency oscillation section, automatic switchover model based on energy function method. The thesis also introduces the analytical method of FSC and TCSC in the electromechanical transient analysis of power system, namely the modifying admittance matrix method and the compensation method. Finally the thesis introduces the implementation procedure of the model and method previously mentioned in the power system analysis program of Chinese version BPA.In the sixth chapter, the thesis makes researches into engineering implementation of the FSC and TCSC on the Tian-Guang 500kV FSC and TCSC project and the Three Gorges-Wanxian SOOkV TCSC project. The simulation result shows that the electromechanical transient modal and algorithm of the FSC and TCSC and their implementation on the power system analysis program can simulate the power system including the FSC and TCSC under the condition of symmetrical fault or asymmetric fault, and that the program achieves the function of FSC and TCSC to improve the transient stability and suppress the oscillation of power system.
