The alternating current field measurement (ACFM) technique is a new kind of the electromagnetic non-destructive testing (NOT) techniques, which represents one of the main development directions. In this paper, the application background, the peculiarity and the development home and abroad of ACFM are illustrated, and the mathematical model is built up. Then the finite element numerical analysis is used as access to the study of the electromagnetic field distribution of ACFM system. As the single rectangular coil is the routine induction probe, the system is simulated based on the theory of A-V-A. The perfect induction field is studied. The corresponding relations between the slots and the field are also analyzed, as well as the measurement scale is given here. Thereafter, a new kind of compound rectangular coil is proposed to apply to ACFM. After its electromagnetic field distribution is analyzed in detail, the measurement scale is given. All the study can be used as the academic base to study the ACFM system further. In the end, the conclusions are all given out and the suggestions about the further study in the ACFM theory are made.
