High-rise structure is a kind of structures whose height-to-width ratio is quite large with comparatively flexible bending stiffness. Then it will deform very easily when subjected to horizontal loads, especially the wind load. With the widespread use of high-rise structures, it is essential and necessary for them to make the wind-vibration control.Vibration control of high-rise structures is a new school which has quickly developed recent years, whose keystone is to change traditional methods that reinforces the strength of load-bearing structures to resist wind loads and seismical forces, which has used the theory of structures' vibration control in order to inhibiting structures' wind-induced response. Particularly, the theory of passive control for high-rise structures has developed fully, what's more, there are a number of engineering examples. Tuned mass dampers (TMD) and multiple tuned mass dampers(MTMD) are the most common and practical among these present passive control methods.Based on the predecessors' achievement, the vibration control method called MTMD is made better in this present paper. A creative one is proposed, that is to say, complex multiple tuned mass dampers (CMTMD). Firstly, according to the complex mode analysis theory of random vibration, high-rise structures are discretized to multiple degrees of freedom system. The formulas are attained, which are employed to calculate the response of the structure-MTMD subjected to pulsating wind load. At the same time, the installed location of MTMD on high-rise structures has been studied carefully in this paper, and taking LuoYang TV tower as an example. Then the concept of complex multiple tuned mass dampers is presented on the basis of calculating results. Secondly, as a result of deducing formulas systematically and making programs to analyze with the software named MATLAB, the complex multiple tuned mass dampers are obviously more effective in comparison with multiple tuned mass dampers for suppressing vibration of structures. Finally, the optimum dynamic parameters of complex multiple tuned mass dampers themselves are designed from two aspects of theories and engineering examples, consequently attained the study achievement that is quite practical. In summary, complex multiple tuned mass dampers have made better of traditional multiple tuned mass dampers as an improved vibration control method. So it will be widely used in engineering structures design.
