The article researches into the detection and identification of ship target. Firstly, based on the theory of modeling, mixed model is used to simulate the magnetic field. At the same time, the model's character is analyzed. During the modeling of hydrodynamic field, the rotational body and subcritical velocity models are utilized. Through the comparisons of the data for two models with measured data of ship's hydrodynamic field, the method of modifying the rotational body model by measured data is presented.Secondly, the signature of ship's magnetic field is simulated on the basis of the precious work. The adaptive weight vector method is used to detect the signal of magnetic field. This method is also tested on measured magnetic data. The results on both simulated and measured data are promising.At last, two methods are used to construct the radial basis function neural network: the normal method and genetic algorithm that is different from the traditional one. Using the constructed networks the patterns of ships are identified based on ship's magnetic and hydrodynamic field.
