As a effective method for limiting enormous fault current, Fault Current Limiter (FCL) attract more and more attention in power industry. The research and development of FCL has made big progress in some country. But except current limitation, is there any other influence or effect FCL may bring to the system? Unfortunately, no much work about this subject has been carried out. Therefore, from the following three aspects the paper is like to give some discussion.Based on a single-infinite model system and a three-generator model system, the transient stability due to introduction of FCL has been analyzed respectively. The different characteristic of "X-type" FCL and "R-type" FCL was highlighted. One kind of analysis method that is fit for a more complex system, is also proposed. Each conclusion has been validated by simulation. In three model systems of different net structure, characteristic of FCL affecting to voltage sags due to short fault is analyzed by simulation. Finally, the paper gives attention to transient voltage stability of the network. A relating mechanism based on induction-motor has been introduced. Based on two model system, a series of simulation has been carried out. From simulation result, the characteristic of transient voltage stability with the application of FCL may be concluded.
