It is proved that the stability of rock mass high slope is mostly affected by lots of discontinuous structural faces like joints and faults, etc. it makes the rock mass be different from intact rocks completely in mechanical properties. So it is necessary for us to do some research on the deformation failure mechanism, and accordingly, we should do some research on the evolvement course and evaluation methods of stability about rock mass high slope. This research about jointed rock high slope is applied in slope 6# of Xiaowan Hydropower Project on Lancang River of Yunnan province. Followed several contents are analyzed:1. In order to solve the stability of slope 6# of quite a number of joint, the analysis of non- completeness jointed rock slope stability is adopted.2. The evidence of the deformation of slope 6# is investigated. The results of investigation show that there are three instability patterns in research region. Following, the deformation failure mechanism of three instability patterns is particularly analyzed. These analyses about instability patterns offer the basic materials to the evaluation course of slope 6#.3. The comprehensive analysis concerning slope 6# is finished, including building geological model, selecting the analyzing method, obtaining the calculation parameters, and post process about simulation results. The conclusions, especially, which the simulation about the partial landslide's impacting range and the deformation failure movement progress of slope 6#, show us a complete cognition and impression of slope evolvement. During this progress, two groups of analysis of software for slope stability with better interface and practicability, strong function and manipulability are used (ANSYS7.1 and 3DEC).4. Through the description of limit equilibrium state and slope stability analysis by strength reduction FEM, the safety factor is got, at the same time, the critical failure surface is found automatically. These conclusions testified that this method is practicable if there are detailed investigation, reasonable model and favorable software.5. At last, the optimized design of reinforcement about slope 6# is briefly bring out.
