Collaborative optimization (CO) is one of very promising multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) methods. This method dissolve complex system analysis and is able to conduct the analysis of disciplines in parallel via disciplinary decompose. Furthermore, The architecture of CO is a natural fit to the current aircraft design organizations.At the beginning of the paper, current MDO activities are reviewed briefly. Then the basis concepts of CO are presented and the special terms of CO are classified. Through the study we implement two types of CO formulations, one is the typical CO and the other is the based-surrogate model CO. We analyze and contrast the two formulations using a simple math example. Further, we proved that the based-surrogate model CO has better robustness through a problem of the relative complex aircraft design and optimization. Finally, we expatiate the basic requirement and function of MDO framework, and implement a simple framework for the easy use of the collaborative optimization.
