The quality of joint has much effect on the age limit of airplane. The fatigue strength can be improved by using interference-fit joint in metal joint-structure. The methods used in our country can't meet the request of long-life design of modern airplane. Driving interference-fit fasteners by stress-wave can achieve high interference and get high fatigue life. Researches have been done on driving interference-fit joint by stress-wave in this paper, to expect to apply the driving method in the manufacturing process soon.A Driving model has been set up to find out the factors that' have effect on the force and supply theoretical foundation for application of the driving method. The appropriate parameters have also been obtained through experiments. The bolt with the interference of 1.77% has been drove using the stress wave.The process of the driving interference-fit fasteners by Stress-wave has been simulated and analyzed using Finite Element Method. And some new knowledge of the process has been acquired. The conclusions are very useful for the farther study of driving interference-fit fasteners by Stress wave.
