In this paper, the nonlinear real-time model of X turbofan engine is analyzed. Some improvement is adopted to reduce the calculating time cost by engine model. And based on these, the application of Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) to the turbofan engine performance seeking control is investigated. In the performance seeking control process, performance constraints and component constraints that occur in the actual engine transient state are considered. Besides, the constraints of control variable, such as the change rate and the change range, are also taken into account. Control problem of turbofan engine transient state, such as acceleration, deceleration and reheat acceleration, are discussed. And the feasible solutions, which can meet the requirement of optimal algorithm and engine, are presented. The performance seeking control algorithms are programmed, and the simulations are carried out based on the software, Visual C++ 6.0.The results of simulation show that it's feasible to apply SQP algorithm to turbofan engine performance seeking control. The optimal control methods are proved to be valid and can improve the engine dynamic performance.
