The crackle of the structure was produced because of the reasons, such as metallurgical inclusion, processing, assembling, the alternated load and working environment, etc. For the influence of alternated load, stress concentration happens near these small crackles. The crackles become great progressively, and lead to the fact that the part or the organization abated efficiency.The structures of truss are the most important components in kinds of engineering equipments and construction machines. The health of those truss is the monitor of state of the equipments. If the damage or crack appears on them, the equipments will breakdown. These factors seriously intimidate the safety of people and wealth of society.The paper adopts finite element modal(FEM) analysis to attain the displacement response time histories, then utilizes the wavelet packet signal(WPS) analysis of MATLAB to analysis it and obtains the information of damage. After researching the simply-supported beam having one or several cracks, the method proves highly effective. After that, they apply it to the truss to study the its dependability , and they find it trusty. At the last, they experimentalize to validate the method giving by the paper reliable.The result of this research shows that wavelet packet analysis can be applied to identify not only the position but also the severity of the damage in simply-supported beam or truss. It also has perfect ability identifying tiny crack. In addition, it has the excellent capability of resist noise pollution.The technique giving by the paper is convenient, simply and credible. It has expansive foreground in the engineering of construction.
