After the road being widen and reconstructed, longitudinal joint will coming into being very easily at the border of the new embankment and the old one. The reason lies in the fact that non uniform settling of the green embankment and the old one arouse additional tress in structural layers of pavement, which suppass the material's tensile strength.Through massive calculation by finite element, this paper analysed the settling pattern and factors of embankment of widen road. Secondly, it has also considered the stress in structural layer of pavement under several kinds of difference in gradients and tensile strength of the pavement materials themselves, then pointed out the setting criteria of widen subgrade. Furthermore, the effects to stress and displacement by such factors as position, number of layers, modulus of geotextile and subgrade strength were computed and studied. Finally, it has connected theory and physical project, drawn several methods and schemes for subgrade widen at different conditions.
