With the rapid development of high class highway in the western area of China, many high embankments and dam-like embankments have appeared in Loess District of Gansu province. The problem of high loess embankment settlement is to be solved urgently.Firstly, by the consolidation test the paper analyses the settlement character of solid engineering reclamation loess under high pressure and the relation of secant modulus and stress by using the idea of secant modulus method. Depending on the solid engineering field test, the settlement law of high embankment is got. At the same tune, by measured data the main factors affecting the embankment subsidence and the relation model of the settlement and the filling height during construction period are analyzed. The settlement of embankment is calculated by using the secant modulus method. It is found that the results are agreed well that of the site testing. The thesis provides a theoretical basis for designing and constructing high embankments in Loess District. Finally the solid engineering is emulated by finite element Marc Program.
