In this paper the virtual instrumentation is successfully introduced for the measurement for autofrettage of the barrel. Based on virtual instrumentation, a set of measuring and controlling system integrated with sensor, data acquisition and control is developed. It presents a useful way and technique approach for building the intelligent testing and controlling system for autofrettage. The paper mainly contains the design of a new foil-like manganin gauge, a DAQ system based on virtual system as well as the autofrettage controlling system. It studies the following contents in great details, the design and manufacture methods of the manganin gauge, the static properties measurement carried out in the range of 0~500MPa, the concept and method with VI software that can execute low speed data acquisition by use of the special high speed DAQ card. Accordingly, a whole set of DAQ system based on virtual instrumentation is set up, the way how to communicate between controller and computer by serial port and the design of virtual instrumentation software is also discussed.
