Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), as a kind of active remote sensor, is a system that can scan and image earth surface object in a high resolution using its EM wave. It will be paid more and more attention to from the circle of remote sensing, due to its capability of detecting and penetrating earth surface in all weather and full time. This article introduces the digital imaging principle of the ship in SAR images, and some methods of ship detection, and pixel positioning principle and method for ship. On the base of above, this article introduces a novel method for ship detection and a ship detection method in high resolution SAR images based on CFAR (Constant False Alarm Rate) technology and Gaussian distribution and detectedships are positioned using R-D theory. This article includes five chapters. At first, the article reviews some development that includes SAR, SAR application for sea and for ship detection and the development of positioning using the SAR. In the second chapter, the principle of SAR imaging and ship imaging in SAR will be introduced and some main ship detection methods will be given. A novel ship detection method and a ship detection method in high resolution SAR images based on CFAR technology and Gaussian distribution will be interviewed in Chapter three. In Chapter four, this paper will introduce R-D theory further detailed and methods of parameter acquisition and optimization are also presented, after detecting the ships from the sea SAR images its geography position is given using the positioning method introduced in this paper and the accuracy of location is less than 200m. Finally, this paper summarizes foresaid study, and gives the corresponding conclusion, simultaneously, proposes correlating future work and prospective after summarizing the study' s deficiencies.
