Special Underwater Propulsion Motor Research

A late-model of underwater electrical propulsor--Integrated Motor/Propulsor(IMP) is introduced in this paper. The technique of integrate motor in propulsor and the technique of special Brushless D.C. Motor are also discussed.The physical configurations of IMP is presented and the design procedure of the special motor is discussed. On the basis of analysing magnetic field of the motor by using finite element method with the ANSYS software, the main mechanical parameters of motor is provide.The controller designed for the propulsor works well. The method of design Brushless D.C. Motor controller and the technique of controlling the propulsor are discussed in this paper.A sample of IMP has been made and tested under water in order to verify the feasibility of the new type propulsor system. Finally the development future of IMP is also presented.
