In accordance with the thermal power torpedo propulsion system using HAP Tri-component fuel, the paper studies the modern analysis and design methodof the engine—the finite element method. At last, using the finite element method coupled with the thermo-mechanical effect and synthetically considering the different generated heat mechanisms and their convertingrule, three-dimensional elastic-plastic FEM model is established. A model of steam distributing valve of torpedo piston engine was built and analyzed under complex boundary conditions of displacement and thermal transfer using a commercially available finite element code ANSYS. The temperature field and stress field were present. According to the result, maximum deformation place was predicted, and thermal stress was major factor causing failure. The result can provide reference to improve cooling design of steam distributing valve. Through applying the FEM software, this paper not only searches after the methods and traits of ANSYS when it is used in solve complicated engineering problems. The paper also offers useful reference to the reliability design of Steam distributing valve and settles a base for realizing the CAM of the Steam distributing valve.
