Municipal solid waste (MSW) has become a serious environmental problem besetting each country. Because of its advantage of maximum volume/quantity reduction and energy recovery, MSW incineration technique has received wide applications in the developed countries. And Zhejiang University has developed a new technique of clean MSW incineration. The new technique has the advantage of making MSW pre-treatment system, discharging the massive incombustible in MSW, and running stably and continuously. In order to study the flowing characteristic of particles in fluidized bed better, particle test system based on image processing technique was developed in this paper. The result of researching on the mixing characteristic and deslagging characteristic of particles in fluidized bed has important referenced value to developing MSW Incinerator.Firstly, by using the high speed CCD camera as an image capture device, based on the analysis of image velocimetry theory, the feasibility of using image processing technique in velocity measurement of particles in fluidized bed was studied in this paper. The experiment shows that the system developed in this paper can be applied successfully in the measurement of velocity of particles in fluidized bed(with relative error less than 5%).According to the imaging cross-correlation algorithm, a particle tracing method based on imaging processing technique was developed. It realized the dynamic tracing on a single particle and particles' behavior. Comparing to the traditional technique, this new one has higher superiority on accuracy, recurring of result and repetitious use. By using an image particles tracing method, the particles' radial and axial mixing effect in different conditions were researched on our minitype two-dimensions fluidized bed. The influence disciplinarian of air speed, material thickness and distribution mode on mixing behavior of particles in fluidized bed was gained, which provide with designing base of MSW Incinerator.Based on both image velocimetry theory and particles tracing method, a cooling segment of pipe fluidized bed with tow rows of upper and lower was built to study on the movement of particles and deslagging characteristic. The result show: Diffusing characteristic of big block had important connection with densityof the materials when not deslagging. From the lighter to heavier, it presents different phenomena: flowing on the surface of fluidized bed, fast diffusing in the fluidized segment, moving down and fast-moving to the bottom of bed. The result had important referenced value to finding out the behaviors of different densities and sizes materiel in MSW while combustion in a pipe Fluidized Bed Incinerator.
