It's one of the effective methods that could improve the poor bond performance between new type walling materials and mortar, increase the shear strength of masonry, lag and restrict crack of masonry by using polymer to amend the bond property of the ordinary mortar.In this article, we adopted polyvinyl-butyral (PVB) and methyl cellulose(MC) as chemical additives, and carried out research about the bond property of modified mortar in masonry of different walling materials. It's established the test and theoretical basis for the application of modified mortar in masonry buildings.In this paper, using the orthogonal design method, 16 groups(96 pieces) of shear masonry specimens were designed. According to the results of the experiment, the effects of the mortar strength, kind of walling materials, the mixed quantity of PVB and MC for the shear resistance of masonry specimens have been analysed. By way of experimental statistical regression, the calculating formula of the shear strength of modified mortar masonry for every kind of walling material has been established.Based on the above analysis, the mixed quantity and proportion of polymer additive of mortar has been proposed as reference for practical application in masonry project.
