The Applications Of Geosynthetics In Caofeidian Ore Terminal Project

Geosynthetics is widely used in many fields such as water resources, civil engineering, traffic and harbor, since it was imported to our country at 1970's. Geosynthetics (after steel, concrete and wood) has been called "the fourth engineering material". In 1996, Geosynthetics worth 80 million dollars was spent on engineering of North America. The spent geosynthetics were geotextile and geomembrane mostly. With the spread of geosynthetics in Europe and Asia, market of geosynthetics is developing at a high speed lately.This article gives a concise introduction of the definition, function and application of geosynthetics, and gives an engineering instance-Land Formation of Caofeidian mineral dock (The first stage), and gives the application condition of geosynthetics in this engineering. Contrapose to the different cofferdams which affecting factors are different, several methods are adopted. It gives a detailed illustration on construction technique and construction technics. Gives a detailed analysis on several crucial issues which emerged when geosynthetics was used in the engineering, and gives the causation and mechanism about how the problems emerged, and then, gives the solution and advice. The several crucial issues is: the choose and construction of geocomposites; the setting and closure of cofferdams; the kinds and forms of breakages of geosynthetical dyke.
