As typical nonlinear objects, alternating current (AC) machines have receiving increased attention in control field, and their control researches have good sense of theory and engineering. Nonlinear backstepping is the most important ingredient in the nonlinear control advances, and it has numerous advantages in designing robust or adaptive controllers of the uncertain systems. In this paper, the control researches of induction motors (IM) and permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are developed that we use the novel backstepping control method. Using Matlab/Simulink we establish models of IM, PMSM and controllers, and ensure correctness of the control systems through simulation.Firstly, the article introduces dynamic models of IM and PMSM in the difference coordinate system, and gives transformation of the models between the different frames also, then can get accurate and easily controllable dynamic models. And simulates and verifies these dynamic models by using of Matlab/Simulink.Secondly, the article introduces some knowledge of stability theory, principle of backstepping method, adaptive backstepping design, sliding mode variable structure backstepping method and neural network backstepping method.Thirdly, the article gives some nonlinear properties of IM and PMSM, so points out the using reasons of backstepping method. And based on backstepping method, we design several system controllers of IM and PMSM. The article sets up and simulates Matlab/Simulink system controllers, and compares among these controllers, then points out advantages and disadvantages of these controllers designing, and gets new development of backstepping control method. Simulation results show the effectiveness and robustness under unknown external load disturbance and rotor resistance.Lastly, the article summarizes the whole paper, and points out the sense of the control researches of IM and PMSM based on backstepping method, and gives the future research direction also.
