Along with technological progress and social development, large-sized comprehensive ward buildings with sophisticated functions in advanced design come forth. In electrical design of ward buildings, reliability and safety remain the important contents. However, ward buildings are different from ordinary civil buildings in electrical design, with their own characteristics and problems over years. This article mainly deals with the following problems in electrical design of comprehensive ward buildings:First of all, surgery, intensive care unit (ICU) and coronary care unit (CCU) have higher requirements for power supply quality and safety. Patients in surgery or in intensive care sometimes need electric medical devices that are placed near or inserted directly into the heart. They not only lack the sentience of electric shock but also are in danger of micro-electric injury;On the other hand, these patients sometimes have to depend on special medical apparatus to survive. Once the apparatus become de-energized, it will cause danger to such patients. If there is not a reliable and safe power supply system, medical accidents are inevitable. Lighting design for surgery rooms plays an important role to success in surgery. With many years of experiences in design and through comparison and calculations for different power supply modes, this article discusses a power supply proposal in IT grounding system to provide a good solution for power supply to such places.Secondarily, in modern hospital, there are more and more electronic instruments and equipment, closely connected with various diagnoses and therapies;The concept of intelligent building is gradually introduced in hospital construction. Building automation system, communication automation system, office automation system, security system, fire hazard automatic alarm and fire fighting interlock system are also indispensable contents in ward building design. However, lightning may cause damage to such equipment and systems, resulting in system breakdown and information interruption. Therefore, modernized ward buildings are higher in lightning protectiondesign. Lightning protection design can not only rest on the concept of original lightning arresters and belts. This article makes a study on the numerical calculation of current distribution and indoor electromagnetic fields when the building is hit by thunders, and discusses the way to prevent the hazards of direct and side lightning strikes, lightning induction and lightning electromagnetic pulses.In addition, with reliable power supply and complete lightning protection measures, the power system in the building is still not the most safe. A good equipotential connection is another important protection measure for power reliability. This article stresses on the protection against micro electric shock in surgery operation rooms.Excellent electrical design in ward buildings can ensure personal safety of patients and bring about social effects and economic effects for the hospital, with very important significance.
