Early since 1860, when the first engine came out, the history of piston has already continued nearly for half a century. The phylogeny of the engines is a course that low power, low efficiency and low speed change to the higher . Especially near these decades, because more new technologies, new material are used, engines' performance has further improvement. The piston, as the key part of the engine, must bear more hyperpyrexia and mechanical load. The performance of aluminum has been optimized and improved several times, and now has already reached its limit. It already could not meet the need that the engine enhances its power. Using the new piston material and the new structure becomes the inevitable trend.The steel and iron material has high strength, the high thermodynamics performance and the fine hot-working and the machine-finishing technology capability. They have become the first choice material to enhance the piston performance. 40Cr, 42CrMo, HT250, QT-600 and so on have already applied in the train engine piston, and displayed the fine characteristic. But the steel and iron material has higher density; it could not meet the need of the tendency that the engines are becoming lighter and lighter, and it is rarely used on the middle and small scale high powered engine.Now, we design a kind of steel piston structure which is suitable for the middle or Small cylinder engines, we call it Friction welding steel piston. We have carried on the analysis and the engine pedestal experiment.
