The Vehicle Video traveling data recorder based on ARM is an intelligent device that can be used for monitoring and recording the situations during vehicle traveling. This device is a important improvement on the conventional devices of similarity which only record the basic vehicle traveling status such as speed,engine temperature , brake operation and so on. It is remarkable that this device offers video recording function that circularly record the environment inside and outside the vehicle for tens of minutes. The application of this device will provide reliable and accurate scientific basis in order to analyze and judge the vehicle's traveling state in dealing with traffic accidents .Besides that ,the over time driving and the driving disobey the rule of the drivers will also be reduced.The embedded system has the features of small size ,high performance ,low power consumption and application specified. They are used widely in the field of national defense ,consumption electronic products , network and industrial control ,especially the automobile industry .The ARM CPU:S3C2410X is applied here in our design, produced by Samsung Electronics. It's a 16/32bits RISC CPU based on ARM920T IP core ,which is highly integrated and powerful .This CPU has a lot of peripheral interfaces and I/O ports ,which will facilitate our system design.The ASIC IME6400 is a system level chip which supports the multi-channel MEPG4 video/audio compression .In our design ,it's served as an video compression oriented co-processor working under the control of S3C2410X.S3C2410X will do the job of importing the other vehicle traveling data such as analog and switch signals.This paper mainly described the functions of the Video Vehicle traveling data recorder and the key detail about how to realize them .Then the paper has introduced the basic ways and means in ARM programming. At last ,the interface and communication scheme between IME6400 and ARM type CPU is also particularly introduced here ,which can be used for reference by other developers.
