With the increasing of traffic, especially the automotive overloading, there are many and varied deficiencies and damages in exiting arch bridges. It's necessary to analyse and evaluate the stability and the ultimate bearing capacity of the exiting arch bridge. This dissertation has founded on the Dong He bridge in Ganzhou city, use large programe Ansys to create a spatial modle, research the stability profoundly, use load test to evaluate the bearing capacity and proof the rationality of the modle. This dissertation analyses the development and the research present status of the stability of the arch bridge. Base on of the basic theory of stability analyses, Finite element model building and the elements selection are analysed. On the stability, the first fourth buckling characteristic numbers are caculated. This dissertation also analysed the in-plane and out-plane buckling under different parameters. On the ultimate bearing capacity, stress and deformation under live load are analysed through material nonlinear and double nonlinear theory. Different design parameters, such as load distribution form, material intensity are also analysed. The bonding of the load test and the theory calculation can help to evaluate the bearing capacity of the arch bridge. The research work benefits to learning about the process until the whole arch bridge structure finally failures and many influence factor on the ultimate load carrying capacity of this kind of old arch bridges; provides many useful experiences and advices on evaluation of ultimate load carrying capacity of employed bridges after many years employment, overrunning capacity, security evaluation, and so on.
