In May 1990, the first international proseminar on HPC (high performance concrete) was sponsored by NIST (National Institute of Science and Technology) and ACI (America Concrete Institute) in the city of Gathersburg in Maryland State of America. At the proseminar, HPC was first defined as: "Concrete having desired properties and uniformity that cannot be obtained routinely using only traditional constituents and normal mixing, placing, and curing practices. As examples, these properties may include: Ease of placement and compaction without segregation. Enhancing long-term mechanical properties. High early-age strength. High touphness. Volume stability Longlife in severe environments."Confecting HPC by addition of fly ash has made much progress at home and abroad. However, in the bridge construction field, there are many controversies on the technology.By the example of The BinZhou Yellow River Bridge ,this subject studies the feasibility of the technology by which HPC needed by engineering was concocted with addition of fly ash. The BinZhou Yellow River Bridge is a cable stayed bridge spanning Yellow River with three towers and two cable planes. The design strength of concretes used for towers and box girders should be 55PMa, and the concretes should be all pumping. The mid tower of BinZhou Yellow River Bridge, 125 meters high, is the tallest tower of all bridges over the Yellow River. Because the main span of the box girder is 300 meters, the concrete must meet the...
